12-month suspended sentence for king hit incident

A 20-YEAR-OLD South Grafton man received a 12 month suspended sentence in Grafton local court today for a "king-hit" incident on Victoria Street in Grafton in April this year.

Kye Robert Windred plead guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and said in forum sentencing that he hit the victim because he thought he was "about to hit a girl."

The victim said as a result of the offence he no longer leaves his house at night.

Magistrate David Heilpern said this assault was indicative of how big an issue public drunkenness is becoming in the Grafton community.
