Police appeal to public after assault knocks out teeth

POLICE have appealed for information relating to the assault and robbery of a 52-year-old man in Maclean.

The Tyndale resident was walking on Cameron St near Maclean High School about 1.30am on Wednesday, when he was allegedly approached by three men armed with sticks.

It is alleged the victim was struck several times to the head and face, knocking out his false teeth and causing severe lacerations to the left side of his head, before being robbed of his backpack and its contents.

After the three men fled the scene, the victim was treated at Maclean Hospital for his injuries.

Police said the attackers were described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, and around 25 years of age.

"We are keen to get feedback from the community who may have information so we can prevent this from happening again," Grafton Inspector Tony Milner said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to phone Grafton detectives on 6642 0222 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
