THEY have rubbed shoulders with some of the world's biggest celebrities, but Angus and Brooke Schmidt say they are all about keeping things local, homespun and simple.

Their Buderim business, Taste This Cafe and Catering, will celebrate its first anniversary next month, a credit to the pair's devotion to fresh produce.

After working for some of Europe's most high-end caterers and party planners, the pair settled on the Sunshine Coast, where they are raising a young family.

Brooke crafted bouquets for the likes of Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Amy Winehouse during her time as a florist in the UK.

Angus worked alongside Pippa Middleton - the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton - as an event co-ordinator at one of the UK's biggest catering companies.

He has also worked at Spencer House and catered for the likes of Richard Branson (pictured) and television networks BBC and Bloomberg.

"She was very friendly," Angus said of Pippa Middleton.

"She was quite personable and wasn't snobbish or anything. She was easy to get along with. Very down to earth."

The Schmidts source almost all of their produce locally and cook all of their food at their Burnett Street store.

Brooke said consumers were becoming increasingly conscious of the nature of their food and their ethos was to keep it as close to home as possible.

"From a business point of view it's a big selling point," she said.
