Changes to vehicle rego in NSW

The amount of time light vehicle safety inspection reports (pink slips) are valid has been extended to six months.
The amount of time light vehicle safety inspection reports (pink slips) are valid has been extended to six months.

TWO important changes to NSW vehicle registration come into effect this week, making it easier for NSW motorists and pensioners to renew registration for their vehicles.

NSW Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay said the changes included extending the time light vehicle safety inspection reports would be valid and improving the registration system for pensioners.

"Extending the time pink slips can be used to six months, means motorists have more flexibility to choose a convenient time for their annual safety inspection and possibly even tie it in with a regular service," Mr Gay said.

"We've also removed unnecessary registration renewal steps for pensioners by developing an automatic renewal system."

The previous system required pensioners to contact Roads and Maritime to obtain a receipt number to validate their registration concession and thus finalise registration.
