Chopper rescues hurt biker

POLICE and emergency services were called to Armidale Rd between Coutts Crossing and Dorrigo on Saturday after a motorcycle rider came off a bike.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter airlifted the motorcyclist to Coffs Harbour Health Campus just after 3pm.

Believed to be aged in his 50s, the man was conveyed from a site at Wiriri Rd between Grafton and Dorrigo.

It's understood the man lost control on Wiriri Rd near Armidale Rd in the Clouds Creek State Forest and came off the motorbike at about 40kmh, crashing into rough terrain.

He sustained upper body injuries.

The Lismore-based Westpac Life Saver Four crew said the retrieval was hampered by wet weather.

The chopper eventually found a safe landing site on Clouds Creek Rd but had little time on the ground before rough weather moved in.

The retrieval was hampered by wet weather, making winching impossible.
