AUSTRALIA lost the recent three-game Twenty20 series against Pakistan.

Captain George Bailey is not stumped by the 2-1 defeat - far from it.

Australia, which is ranked ninth in the world in the shortest form of the game, lost by seven wickets in the first game before losing the second in a super over playoff after scores were tied. It finished the series on a high by crushing its opponent by 94 runs.

Bailey believes his players are full of confidence heading into next week's ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

"We had a disappointing first game, but from there we played some really good, consistent cricket with bat and ball," he said. "We're as confident as we can be and we have a little bit of momentum behind us."

Australia's win in game three was largely due to the 111-run stand from openers David Warner and Shane Watson.

Bailey said the pair had a key role to play throughout the tournament.

"If they fire for us, we're very hard to beat," he said.

Australia plays Ireland first-up on September 19.
