Cows in great escape
ARMIDALE Rd residents were awoken to a strange sight at about 4:30am today.
Thirty-one calves and thirty-nine cows were delivered to the Grafton Saleyard overnight and somehow escaped and went for a stroll some two kilometres south along Armidale Rd to Elland.
Some 30 cattle ended up in the front yard of an Armidale Rd residence and a few stragglers were herded into the yard and out of danger's way.
The council closed Armidale Rd between just north of the Orara Way turnoff and the Grafton Saleyard (Lillypool Rd) while local stockmen rounded up the cattle.
Council issued a statement saying investigations were under way as to the cause of the escape.
