Grafton Greyhounds form analysis for today's meeting

A strong 12-event program at Grafton today should have plenty to attract the punters.
A strong 12-event program at Grafton today should have plenty to attract the punters. Adam Hourigan

FORMER Queensland based greyhound training duo Jim Gallaway and Julie King made the decision to base their operations on the northern outskirts of Grafton just under a year ago and they have been reaping the benefits ever since through the deeds of their talented Magic Sprite x Splash Of Class litter.

This afternoon they look to have a stranglehold on the Armidale to Grafton final which is the feature event on today's 12 race program with equal fastest heat winners Warragai Boy and Class Of Magic.

As the name suggests two heats of the series were staged at Armidale just under two weeks ago and the litter mates could not have been more impressive with Warragai Boy saluting by 7.5 lengths and Class Of Magic by 5.75 lengths.

To make matters worse for rival connections Warragai Boy has come up with box 8 which looks ideal for him while Class Of Magic is also perfectly drawn sitting up in box 1.

While the Gallaway trained pair have not seen a lot of the Grafton track under race conditions they are well schooled here and will be difficult to toss.

Also being conducted on the day is the Carters Canine Capers Best 8 over 610 metres and while races over this distance are a rarity at Grafton they are a great spectacle.

The Dave Irwin trained Bralyn Nicky looks to be some what of a Grafton specialist with a record of three wins from four attempts over the distance but she won't have things all her own way with stiff opposition likely to come from Uptown Diva, Junior Phantom, Planetary and Independence.

Racing kicks off at 2.09pm with the last event at 5.47pm.

RACE 1
www.insidertips.com.au 4/5TH GDE 305M
Hard to see them leading Iona Star (1) from her good draw here and you can forget her only previous run here when unplaced from a poor draw. Has plenty of box speed and has been racing well at Casino. Fagus Valley (7) could be a knockout hope at odds from her wide draw. Hasn't started for 4 months but has won here this trip from an inside draw in quick time and she could sprint well fresh. Elite Integrity (2) ran 17.40sec winning here 2 runs back and must be respected while Theatrical Girl (8) also has some claim. Lyn's Flash has won 4 in a row but I think she may find early trouble from her draw.
1-7-2-8

RACE 2
SINGLETON RUGBY LEAGUE OLD BOYS MDN 407M
Cosmolicious (8) showed plenty of pace when finishing second in a Perf Trial btn 1 length in 23.25sec and that puts it into this race nicely. I'm Yasi Trick (7) has won a 305m Perf Trial in 17.69sec before then winning a 407m PT in 23.69sec. Isn't poorly drawn out wide today and should race well. If Mr. Lee Long (1) has any ability it couldn't be any better drawn as Trick Killer (2) is a desperate wide runner who will be looking for the outside fence without fear or favour. Trick Killer will be running on late if the camera can pan that wide to spot him.
8-7-1-2

RACE 3
AL'S MECHANICAL 5TH GDE 305M
Going to go a little left of centre in this and select Tranquil Mitzy (1) on top. Box 1 is a massive advantage over the 305m and although only successful in 1 of 22 starts most of the field is in the same boat. That win was over this distance in 17.76sec 7 months ago but her recent form is ok. Matai (6) is an honest greyhound which is never far away in this class. Can run around the 17.70 mark so must be considered despite the poor draw. Reflux Cloud (3) has been placed 10 of 19 starts this distance without winning and can be placed again while Pedro's Que Tee (8) has a rough show from her wide draw. Tough race.
1-6-3-8

RACE 4
BEAUREPAIRES 5TH GDE 407M
Hurrican Ash (5) is new here but does come to this track with good form at Ipswich (25.18sec) and Lismore (24.17sec) with wins there in smart times. Only needs to step cleanly in this to be hard to beat. Glenreagh Rocket (6) is trained locally but is having his first run here. Won at the Gardens (22.84sec) 3 runs back then followed that up with 2 placings there when a little moderately away. The straight run to the first turn should suit him and he is a real hope. El Sportsmans (1) is a prolific winner on country tracks in fast times and must be respected off box 1 in this although the 407m on the sand may test while Tranquil Revenge (2) is racing ok.
5-6-1-2

RACE 5
CALDWELL ELECTRICAL 0-1 WIN 480M
Can't go past Think About Me (8) from her ideal wide draw. Has won at Lismore over 520m in 30.43sec and did finish 2nd to Orara Tank in 27.32sec here btn just 1.75lens. That is good enough for this. Big watch on Hareless Chaser (1) which has been doing all of its racing at Albion Park in Brisbane. Won there in a good 30.32sec in May and although form has tapered off since he must be watched from the good draw. Astrologist (4) finished an unlucky 2nd to Noir Lee last run here btn a nose in 27.73sec and with luck early he should race well while Kiowa Star (6) has good speed and could be placed.
8-1-4-6

RACE 6
CARTERS CANINE CAPERS BEST 8 610M
Great to have another 610m race here at Grafton and this is a very even field and tough to pick. Brayln Nicky (7) appears to be almost a Grafton specialist having never been unplaced at the track while her form elsewhere is well below that. She has won 3 from 4 over this distance with a best of 35.34sec and if able to take up a forward position she will be hard to beat. Uptwon Diva (4) might be getting on in years but she has been a super chaser for connections. Has had 1 start for 1 win this distance in 35.46sec and she must be considered. Junior Phantom (5) is not blessed with any early speed but he will be running on well if able to find the rail while Planetary (1) must be considered although he would be better drawn wide.
7-4-5-1

RACE 7
ARMIDALE TO GRAFTON FINAL 5TH GDE 407M
This race looks to be a battle between kennel and litter mates Warragai Boy (8) and Class Of Magic (1). Each won there heats at Armidale in 21.03sec and both have won 3 races. Giving Warragai Boy the nod as he appears to be a little stronger but hey it could go either way. Putting in Sportsman's Liam (7) and Mojo Rocks (2) for the minors but it is hard to see them beating the favoured two.
8-1-7-2

RACE 8
CLARENCE VALLEY SHEDS 4/5TH GDE 480M
This race is an absolute raffle and near impossible to decipher. If you like one then please stick with it. For what it is worth I will go with Luzon Lad (2) to show good speed and just about lead. Frosty's House (5) won well at Lismore recently (30.51sec), Tranquil Go To (7) is the local who knows the track well while Owna Dryva (6) has plenty of ability but is poorly drawn. This race is just too hard for me.
2-5-7-6

RACE 9
GILLESPIE PLUMBING MDN 305M
Not a lot is known about most of these runners but I will select Vee String (3) on top courtesy of her 23.48sec PT win over 407m here recently. Dropping back to 305m which is a worry but there is not a lot of depth in this. Noble Star (2) ran a fair 2nd in a Stewards Trial at Lismore recently once again over the longer 420m which gives him a show. Snippy's Silky (5) won a 305m PT here in 17.87sec while Rio (7) knows the track well and could be placed. Another very tricky race on paper.
3-2-5-7

RACE 10
HENWOODS HOT BREAD SHOP 5TH GDE 407M
Rangas Rock (1) looks to be nicely placed from box 1 in this and represents a solid chance. Won here off box 7 when showing speed in 23.38sec and she should get a clear run from tis draw. Watta Jackpot (7) ran a handy 23.17sec when winning at Casino last start and although having her first race start at Grafton she does have prospects. My Vision (2) came from well back when finishing strongly for a good 23.48sec win here last start and although she will be spotting them a start she can't be discounted while Choctor Ridge (3) is the fastest winner on the track at 23.18sec but he doesn't have great early speed.
1-7-2-3

RACE 11
HESSIONS AUTO PARTS 4/5TH GDE 407M
It is always a risk to tip them having their first start on the track however I do like the chances of Duel 'Em Up (2). This fellow has won 6 from 14 including a quick 24.22sec win at Lismore when he was quite impressive. Form since has been mixed but it did include a win at Albion Park and some unlucky runs at Lismore. Expecting him to love the long run to the first turn here. Orara Bella (3) is an improving type with good speed who should appreciate the return to 407m. Has run 23.26sec for this distance and will go close. Incandescent (7) is an honest type who is usually thereabouts while Orara Maree (8) has plenty of ability but may struggle to cross them in this. Look out if she does.
2-3-7-8

RACE 12
grayhoundproductsdirect.com 5TH GDE 407M
Looks like we can finish off the day with a good thing in the shape of Hot Bonus (7). Has been runner up his past 3 at Lismore in smart times when showing good speed and he should nearly lead this from start to finish. Tricode Crystal (2) looks to be the only fly in the ointment as she can show good speed and does like to course wide. She has a chance. Throw in Classic Bonus (4) and Kikem Elly (1) for the minors but Hot Bonus looks to be the one.
