SHE has 20 years on Elma Ward, but Culcairn's Evelyn Hall has beaten the Ulmarra octogenarian's record and has 63 great-grandchildren.

In Saturday's Daily Examiner there was a story about Mrs Ward and her clan of 50 great-grandchildren.

Her family thought it might have been a record, but yesterday Graftonian Beverley Husking said her mother, Mrs Hall, had a tribe of 63 to call her own.

Mrs Husking praised both women for their amazing feats.

"It was a beautiful story and Elma still has another 20 years up her sleeve, but mum is a fun person and I thought she'd like to see her story in the paper too," she said.

Mrs Husking had four brothers and four sisters and grew up in Grenfell, Mt Victoria, Sydney and finally Culcairn.

"We were poor but we had a lot of fun," she said.

"Mum found it hard at times and life at home could be bedlam."

Mrs Husking, who moved to Grafton with her husband Charlie in 1957, was the second-oldest out of nine children and spent a lot of time babysitting when she was younger.

"I vowed and declared I wasn't going to have lots of children," she said.

She had two children of her own and she has five grandchildren.

Her mother Mrs Hall has 32 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

"We all get on very well together," Mrs Husking said.

"Mum is very kind and very gentle and she always used to say, 'if you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all'."
