Guantanamo Bay teen released

A 15-year-old Guantanamo Bay prisoner, who was fighting in Afghanistan when captured in 2002, has been returned to his homeland of Canada.

According to Al-Jazeera English, Omar Khadr, now 26, was the youngest captive in the American prison camp.

In 2010, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a US solider and admitting links to al-Qaeda although the term was cut short on condition he admitted to being an al-Qaeda conspirator.

On Saturday morning, a military plane carrying Mr Khadr left the base bound for Canada.

Khadr pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges including conspiring with al-Qaeda to commit terrorist acts, making roadside bombs to target US troops in Afghanistan, spying on American military convoys and providing material support for terrorism.
