AFL: The cavalry is beginning to arrive in Brisbane with the Lions confirming the worst-kept secret in footy - that David Noble will be the club's new football boss.

Noble, 49, will start in the position of general manager of football on Monday following 10 years with Adelaide in a variety of roles, including assistant coach, list manager and head of football.

"The club is going in a new direction and we need the best people to lead that change - David really fits the bill across every criteria,” Lions chief executive Greg Swann said.

"He is an elite operator and the professionalism, knowledge and experience he will bring to our football department will be key to our club's revival.”

Noble's first task will be help choose the Lions' next senior coach, though that is sure to be one of his easier jobs, with Hawk Chris Fagan considered across the line.

Before joining the Crows, Noble coached SANFL side Glenelg and spent five years as an assistant at the Western Bulldogs.

In bidding him farewell, Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan praised Noble's dedication and work ethic.

"David has made a valuable contribution and played his part in steering the club through some of its most trying times,” Fagan said.

"He is a quality person and we wish him and his family the very best as they take on a fresh challenge.”
