Maclean gets ready for black out

 

A helicopter circling Maclean today is doing final inspections before Saturday's electricity switch off.

The Examiner was alerted by residents concerned the police may be searching for a fugitive but a short investigation found a far less exciting truth

 

The area surrounding Maclean will be without power on this Saturday night  until the early hours of Sunday morning.

Maclean Neighbourhood Watch is advising all residents and businesses to ensure their home/business are safe and sound during this outage, ensure doors and windows are secured and locked,

Brian Haselum, president of Maclean Neighbourhood Watch, gave the following advice.

"if you have a cordless phone it may not function during these hours so have your mobile phone handy and fully charged.

"If using candles keep exposed flames away from flammable materials, such as curtains and clothing .Have a torch handy, check that the batteries are ok.

"Also unlplug appliances such as TV's Fridges etc  just in case there is a power surge when supply of electricity is turned on.

"If you observe any criminal event, breaking into home or shop advise the Police immediately for non-life threatening crime phone Police Assistance Line 131 444, for Life Threatening situations or crimes in progress phone Emergancy 000.

"And most importantly be aware for each other especially those who live on their own and may need your help."
