A MAN will face Grafton Local Court next month after being extradited from Queensland on child sexual assault charges.
The charges relate to the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy in the Clarence Valley between Friday, July 28 and Tuesday, August 1, 2012.
He's been charged with sexual intercourse with a person aged 10-14 and four counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a person aged between 10 and 14.
Detectives from the NSW Police Force Child Abuse Squad launched an investigation after being advised of the allegations.
They applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for a 33-year-old Queensland man.
The man, from Surfers Paradise, was arrested in Queensland at the weekend and charged by virtue of the warrant.
He faced Southport Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning where Child Abuse Squad detectives applied for and were granted the man's extradition to NSW.
The man was transferred to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was refused bail to face Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday with the matter being put over to Grafton Local Court on September 3, 2012.
He will remain in custody.
Police will allege the man and the child were known to each other.
The Child Abuse Squad comprises detectives specially trained in investigating crimes against children including sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse and serious cases of neglect.
The squad works with the Department of Family and Community Services and NSW Health, and has specialised teams based at metropolitan and regional locations throughout NSW.
