IN AN industry dominated by males, Sharon Shankland had no hesitation in taking on the leading role when the position became available at the Maclean Services Club.

With the backing of the board and her staff, Mrs Shankland has this week become the first female CEO, replacing former manager Mark Bannerman after he relocated to Gunnedah in June.

"They know what I'm about and they understand the energy I bring to the table," Mrs Shankland said.

"I have my own approach and I'm ready to push forward and update the club to ensure it is financially viable into the future."

However Mrs Shankland said the position would not be without its challenges, both professionally and personally.

"The industry is highly regulated and has many restrictions," she said.

"Operating sustainably both financially and environmentally are at the top of my concerns.

"It's a challenge in itself just being a woman in this industry."

Maclean Services Club president Kevin Jones OAM described Mrs Shankland as very capable and is confident she will lead the club to a new era in the face of change.

"She's exceptional," Mr Jones said.

"I believe it's a very good direction for the club to take.

"It's a very positive situation."
