NSW Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser will be at today's Grafton Jail job cuts protest rally.

Mr Fraser said he had not come to Grafton specifically for the rally, but would attend to support his good friend and fellow National, the Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis.

"H'e s a fellow colleague and a new member," Mr Fraser said.

"We stood side by side when he was Maclean Mayor and were trying to get the bats moved."

Mr Fraser called on the NSW Government to do a socio-economic study into the downstream effect of the cuts on the Grafton community.

He said the Grafton Jail job cuts will be the number one topic of discussion when the NSW Nationals hold their next meeting in a few weeks time.

"We as National Party members have to stand up for regional communities," he said.

Today's rally begins at Memorial Park, Grafton at 12.15pm.

Topics:  chris gulaptis, grafton jail, job cuts, nsw nationals, rally
