'Only win will do for Lions'

BRISBANE Lions vice-captain Jed Adcock will not be content with an honourable loss to Collingwood at the Gabba on Saturday night.

The Lions, who have a 2-4 record so far this season, have drawn comparisons to the "Bad New Bears" Brisbane team that suffered five big losses to start its 1991 campaign.

Collingwood on the other hand has won its last three games after a slow start to 2012.

"I wouldn't say that being competitive is a pass mark," defender Adcock said yesterday.

"You've got to win the game to be satisfied."

Rather than get swept up in the "Bad News Bears" headlines, Adcock backed his team to match it with the Magpies.

He said he believed despite its inexperience, young Lions midfielders like Jack Redden and Tom Rockcliff were capable of matching the likes of Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury.

"Collingwood have got a good midfield, but we feel like our midfield can be a real strength of ours," Adcock said.

"(Simon Black) is a very consistent player but we need those guys with 40 or 50 games to step up a bit more."

Adcock said his teammates embraced a change of scenery at a training session at North Burleigh on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

"Training can be a bit monotonous so it was nice to get away from the Gabba and train down at the beach," he said.

Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff did not train yesterday because of illness but is expected to play against the Magpies.
