Rocks thrown at firefighters

A FIREFIGHTER was struck by a rock in South Grafton overnight as his crew dealt with a series of deliberately lit fires.

Mick Kearns, Station Officer for Grafton Fire Station said between 10.30pm and 2.45am firefighters were chasing a number of deliberately lit fires.

He said at one fire a rock was thrown and hit the helmet of one of the crew members.

"This is a needless waste and drain on the resources of emergency services in the Clarence Valley," he said.

Police are investigating.
