THIRTEEN has proved to be unlucky for Australian cyclist Michael Rogers.

A bout of tonsillitis has forced the triple world time trial champion to withdraw from Australia's nine-man team to contest the road race at the world titles in the Netherlands on Sunday.

This would have been the 13th consecutive year that Rogers would have raced for Australia in the world titles.

Tasmanian Wesley Sulzberger has replaced Rogers for the 267km race from Maastricht to Valkenburg.

It is Sulzberger's fourth appearance in the event. He was a member of the team that supported Cadel Evans when he won the world title in Switzerland in 2009.
