ROMANIAN shooter Alin George Moldoveanu has prevailed in a tight battle to win gold in the men's 10 metre air rifle.

Moldoveanu knew he was in fight with world number one Niccolo Campriani after the pair both broke the Olympic record to qualify for the final.

The duo then turned the final into a personal grudge match, with the lead changing between the pair on numerous occasions.

But the Romanian saved his best for last, shooting a 10.3 on his final shot to win the gold by 0.6 over his Italian rival.

India's Gagan Narang finished in the bronze medal position.
