Sea change aborted at Yamba
CALLING into Yamba nine years ago proved to be a good decision for Michael Gavin and his family; they're still there today and they love it.
Michael said he and his family left the Sutherland Shire for a sea change, bound for Hervey Bay.
"We planned on heading up to Hervey Bay because there was a lot of work around there," Michael said.
"Then one of my wife's friends said to call into Yamba for a couple of days if we got the chance."
"We called in and stayed a few days at the Blue Dolphin and we liked it."
"Then we booked into a unit for a month and started looking for houses."
And the rest is history.
After owning his own air-conditioning business in Sydney, Michael said he was offered a job shortly after arriving in Yamba.
"My wife and three daughters and I love the beaches, the entertainment and the river. Yamba reminds me a bit of what Byron Bay was like 30 years ago... just a quiet seaside town."
When they first moved to Yamba, Michael said he and his family loved it so much they used to call the town "Pleasantville".
