Skateboard escape a hoax: police

AN ALLEGED child abduction in South Grafton has turned out to be a hoax.

NSW Police Media issued a statement on Thursday urging people to be vigilant after a report of a child hitting a man with a skateboard to flee abduction.

The report said two siblings aged nine and 12 were walking along Ryan St when a vehicle stopped beside them.

However, yesterday Detective Cameron Lindsay, Crime Manager Coffs LAC said the story had been fabricated.

"It's obviously a relief that there is not someone like that in the community … but we'll be asking parents to talk to their children about the impacts of making false allegations," he said.

"Considerable time and resources are given to these types of allegations and it's important for people to understand the impact and cost that this type of story has on the wider community."
