EMERGENCY services crews have rescued a teenager trapped in rocks near Turners Beach, Yamba.
Police, paramedics, the SES and a helicopter attended the scene.
It is believed the 13-year-old from the Gold Coast had been in the water and was washed into the rocks by a big wave.
He has possibly suffered a broken ankle and was unable to walk, so took shelter in a small cave.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was able to winch the boy to safety about 6.30pm and has flown him away for medical attention.
Rescue crews had been concerned the operation would be made more difficult by the incoming tide.
