Three-match ban for Cahill

TIM Cahill has accepted a three-match ban after the Everton player grabbed Frenchman Yohan Cabaye's throat after the final whistle in Sunday's 3-1 win against Newcastle.

A furious Cahill was apparently reacting to something Cabaye said.

The Socceroo said in a statement that Cabaye's words "have no place either on or off the football pitch".

"Cabaye has apologised via his club's website, and as far as I am concerned the matter is now closed," Cahill added.

In the first half Cabaye was criticised for pushing a ball boy aside while he retrieved a ball. He later apologised
