THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is celebrating 30 years in 2012.

In recognition of this incredible milestone, the Lismore Helibase will host a 30th Anniversary Open Day on Saturday, August 25.

Between 10am and 2.30pm, local residents will be invited to meet pilots and crew members and take a special tour through one of the rescue helicopters. Videos of the rescue helicopter in action, live demonstrations and emergency services displays will feature at the open day.

Kids activities will include face painting and winch tryouts.

The service will also be promoting Helicopter Awareness Week (August 25 - September 1) on the weekend.

Residents are asked to dig deep and give generously to the special 30 Year Anniversary Appeal to help keep the dream alive and help the rescue helicopter service continue to support the vision of those who worked so hard to get the service up and running in 1982.

The Lismore Helibase is located at 60 Brunswick St, Lismore.

All are welcome, admission is by a gold coin donation.

The Daily Examiner will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the rescue helicopter by publishing a special feature in our weekend edition.
