Lucinda rewarded for music dedication

LUCINDA Bell is just 10 years old but already has managed to get a music scholarship for the clarinet.

The Grafton Public School student had to play a piece of music in front of three people, and then she was selected as the recipient of a scholarship to the Grafton Conservatorium.

“I played An Old Tale for the audition, but my favourite piece to play is Stranger on the Shore,” Lucinda said.

She is playing at a grade two level, but hopes to advance once this year's round of exams come.

Lucinda is also in the clarinet choir at the conservatorium. She is the youngest member.

“I am the youngest, and the oldest is in Year 12,” she said.

As well as practising her clarinet and doing her Year 5 homework, Lucinda also plays with the Grafton Public School Band and does physical culture.

“I only started physie this year, but I'm having loads of fun,” she said.

Lucinda said that she loves living in Grafton because of the Jacaranda Festival.

“I just love the jacarandas and the festival. Jaca Thursday is loads of fun,” she said.
