AN INTERNAL review of Mullumbimby High School's student welfare and communications systems in the wake of the death of Year 9 student Jai Morcom begins today.
The NSW Education Department says a seven-member program review team will be led by a school education director from outside the region.
“The other members are a parent representative, the principal, a deputy principal of the school, a school development officer, a teacher from the school, and a principal education officer,” a spokesman for the department said.
“They will involve as many staff as volunteer to take part.”
Beginning today, the review will be conducted throughout the week and will look into student engagement in the curriculum, pupil welfare, school management roles and responsibilities, and internal and external communications.
“The program review is explicitly not canvassing any specific incident, staff efficiency or conduct,” the department spokesman said.
Jai, 15, died after a school yard fight at the end of August this year, plunging the school and the Mullumbimby community into mourning.
