A RECORD thirty-three teams from across the NSW North Coast took to the Clarence River on Sunday for the Jacaranda Dragon Boats regatta.

The seventh running of the Jacaranda Dragon Boats has been hailed an unqualified success, and it's no wonder given how popular dragon boating has become on the North Coast since the inaugural event in 2003.

Spokesperson Lyn Diskon said 11 clubs had formed on the North Coast in the past few years, and the Grafton regatta had now become a dual event, with both club and community races held on the same day.

On Sunday, the Grafton club had a popular win in the final of the club mixed competition, drowning arch rivals Camden Haven, while the final of the community racing was won by Son & Donohoe Plumbers.
