Sandra and Rick Johnson, of South Grafton, with their children Sophie, 2, and Liam, 4, having lunch at the Brushgrove Hotel.
THE Brushy pub was visited by notable food writer and blogger Antony Perring over the Christmas-New Year period.
From this visit, the pub earned a feature spot on his blog and a place in the city boy’s heart.
Antony stepped into the Brushgrove Hotel while visiting family and was far from disappointed.
“The Brushgrove Hotel is perfectly situated to catch a cool breeze on a summer afternoon, and the back lawn overlooks a boat ramp and private pontoon in the shadow of the bridge,” the food blogger wrote.
“Fresh off the fishing boats that work the Clarence, the prawns are amazing. Served simply with a salad and a few crunchy potato chips, the prawns were the perfect lunch today sitting in the cool breeze by the river.”
He finished the blog entry by commenting on the friendliness of the staff and the unique ability of being able to throw a line in while you hold a beer at the Brushy pub.
Brushgrove Hotel owner Dean Kay said he was really excited to see such a positive, and public, write-up.
“Word of mouth is the best way to promote your business and for someone to have such a great experience, and then write about it, makes us really happy,” he said.
“The locals and regulars are also pretty excited. I think they like to see their local little pub doing well.”
