CLARENCE VALLEY artist, retired school teacher and sportsman Graham Mackie celebrated and crooned into his 60th year in true style on Saturday night at Yamba.

Around 200 people shared his birthday bash at the Yamba surf club, including Bradman invincible Sam Loxton and international celebrity Dr Dan Frogan.

Mr Mackie and Mr Loxton have been friends since the early 90s when Mackie was coaching the Gold Coast Cricket Dolphins. He has been a regular visitor to Yamba since, saying he ‘absolutely loves the folks around here’. Mr Loxton shared centre stage with Mr Mackie.

He almost stole the show when invited to share some stories about Mr Mackie, having everyone in fits of laughter as the 88-year-old cricket veteran reminisced about the gentlemen’s game.

Mr Mackie gave a moving tribute to his family and friends and at times was emotional when sharing stories of his life experiences.
