Brothers Brad Robertson grabs a single on the way to his ton.
A BRAD Robertson century was the highlight in the game between Brothers and Coutts Crossing at Ellem Oval.
The allrounder’s ton could not have come at a better time with the finals due to commence this week.
To describe Robertson’s innings as chanceless would be stretching the truth as he was put down by the Coutts fieldsmen on six occasions.
Coutts started the day at 5-77 chasing Brothers first innings total of 124 but quickly succumbed to a juicy Ellem Oval wicket.
Coutts were bundled out for just more than 100 as batsmen struggled to get a start.
“The ball was moving off the pitch a mile which made batting difficult. Ken (Willis) got a bad decision and from then on we started to crumble,” a disappointed Coutts captain Tim Tilse said yesterday.
Batting for a second time Brothers were 3-180 with Robertson stealing the show on 108 not out. In a bid for outright points Coutts were sent in again and were 5-105 when they shut-up shop.
Tilse was realistic when asked about his team’s performances during the season.
“It has been a long season and a lot of the guys haven’t had too much experience in the Premier League,” he said.
“Our bowling stood up but our battings needs to improve. We have plenty of guys who will be better off for the experience.
“Young Chardy (Brad Chard) had a fantastic season and the likes of Lewis Chevalley, Joel Gosson and Nick Wood proved they have what it takes to play in the top grade.”
Next week’s elimination semi-final between Brothers and Tucabia Blue promises to be an absolute cracker with both sides indicating they will be close to full strength.
