A MACLEAN rower matched it with the nation's finest, winning a silver medal at the Australian Rowing Championships at Victoria's Lake Nagambie last week.

CLARENCE Valley rowers continue to match it with the nation’s finest as a Maclean product medalled at the Australian Rowing Championships at Victoria’s Lake Nagambie last week.

Gulmarrad’s Riley Elvery hauled an impressive silver in the Men’s Under-19 Single Sculls, clocking in at 7.20.07 minutes.

The winner from a field of 43 scullers was Commercial (QLD) Cameron Smith in a time of 7.16.41.

In the Women’s Under-19 Quad Sculls the composite crew of bow Stephanie Smith (Maclean), Briony Edgar (Grafton), Leah Saunders (Maclean) and Sophie Dansie (Lismore) won bronze, holding off the challenge from 10 other crews.

Their time was 7.14.96, behind victors Brisbane/ GPS in a time of 7.07.36. Leah Saunders and Sophie Dansie went on to claim another bronze in the Women’s Under-19 Double Scull in a time of 7.48.38. The other crew from Lower to make a final was Isaac Bolton and Cameron Kitchner (Grafton), who came fifth in a fast race of 7.02.41.
