Westlawn batsman Brad Inmon greets the ball against Tucabia White.
WESTLAWN’S Tony Blanch sat up all night ‘doing the maths’ prior to their game against Tucabia White.
The evergreen spin bowler was busy working out what was required for his team to take out the minor premiership
“With the game between Harwood and South abandoned I knew our guys had to get 158 runs to grab the minor premiership,” Blanch said.
In reply to Tucabia White’s first innings total of 99 Westlawn were all out for 170 which was enough to give them a home semi-final against Harwood next Saturday at Ellem Oval.
Brad Inmon continued his form with the bat belting 44 while down the order Nathan Blanch contributed with a fine knock of 21.
“Brad has been batting well this season and continues to play important innings for us,” Blanch said.
“He is always good for a 40 or 50 and we are hoping his form continues against Harwood next week.”
Just in case Blanch was out of whack with his calculations Westlawn sent White in for a second time and had them five down when play was stopped.
For Tucabia captain Chris Adamson the Christmas break was where it all went pear-shaped.
The side’s form in the run in to the finals faltered badly and ultimately cost them.
“Pre-Christmas we were in with a shot of taking out the title but from then on we were inconsistent,” Adamson said.
“We had trouble getting the same team on the paddock and it ruined our momentum. Good luck to Tucabia Blue for making the finals; they have gelled well as a team for the last couple of years.
“We are certainly disappointed in missing out, I think it’s the first time in ten years we have missed out on the finals...it will be a real culture shock next week with no cricket.”
