Jodie Watters: “I love rural Australia and write poetry about aspects of rural life, animals and other things that I love about our country.”
JODIE Watters moved to Grafton about 14 months ago to begin her career as a nurse and has decided to enter the Grafton Showgirl competition to meet new people.
“I have a few friends in Grafton and I am looking forward to meeting a range of people from within the community,” she said.
“Emma Lee Pitkin, who has also entered, is my best friend so we are hoping to have a heap of fun together.”
Jodie, who celebrates her 22nd birthday today, will always be a country girl at heart and thinks that Showgirl is a valuable experience.
“I grew up in Ashford, near Inverell, and never had the opportunity to do something like this. I am a fairly social person and I think that Showgirl will be a bit of a confidence boost.”
The registered nurse loves her job and wouldn’t trade it for anything, even though she undertook the course at the University of New England in Armidale simply because she didn’t know what she wanted to study.
“I am a very hands-on person and I don’t think I could cope with a nine-to-five desk job,” she said.
When she isn’t at work, Jodie loves to saddle up and go horse riding and hopes to become involved in polocrosse. The young woman also writes poetry as her creative outlet.
“I love rural Australia and write poetry about aspects of rural life, animals and other things that I love about our country,” she said.
“I am also a massive music fan and have a pretty extensive music collection. I love everything country but I also like some of the oldies like Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles.”
In the next couple of years, Jodie hopes to travel to Canada, and work as a nurse in rural Queensland.
