Emergency: Tim Biffen arrives at Lismore Base Hospital on Wednesday.
A 47-YEAR-OLD man was still fighting for his life in Lismore Base Hospital yesterday after a horror crash on Armidale Road, South Grafton.
The white dual cab ute he was driving collided with a semi-trailer about 11.30am on Wednesday.
Formerly of Grafton but now residing in Darwin, the driver of the ute, Tim Biffin, arrived in Grafton only days before the incident to visit family.
He was airlifted by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter to Lismore in a critical condition suffering head, chest, abdomen and pelvic injuries.
Mr Biffin was stabilised at Lismore Base Hospital on Wednesday night, doctors working frantically as he clung to life by a thread. The driver of the Mills semi-trailer was uninjured.
