Mission: Peter and Kerrie Clement are hoping to raise money for a power source, intended for a Solomon Islands medical clinic, with a craft fair on September 26. The fair will feature both scrapbooking and knitting sessions with local businesses and groups including Creative Memories and Wraps with Love.
AFTER seeing how many people of the Solomon Islands endure each day without electricity, Peter and Kerrie Clement want to return – but this time, with an alternative power source.
In conjunction with Grafton City Batteries, the local pair – he a paramedic, she a clinical coder – have designed a battery that will light up the Kukudu Medical Clinic, where they visited last year on a medical mission.
To raise money to both build, then transport the battery to the islands, Kerrie is organising a fundraising craft fair, to be held on Sunday, September 26.
“I'm a crafty sort of person,” said Kerrie, “and we've become a bit passionate about continuing to help those people who have nothing.”
The Kukudu Craft Fair will be held on September 26 from 9am-1pm at the Seventh-day Adventist Church Hall, Bent Street, South Grafton. Entry is $5. Details: 0402 835 252.
