Second bridge not part of study

THE RTA gave the Concerned Citizens Group (CCG) a copy of Brief for the Grafton Bridge Traffic Study in 2009, which clearly stated all RTA consultants were required to investigate the four proposed locations for a second bridge.

So when it was announced in Parliament by the Minister for Roads David Borger that the options for a second bridge route through Pound and Bacon Streets in Grafton was not part of the study, CCG member Bob Cairns couldn’t believe his ears.

“The Minister can’t claim that he has not seen the brief because I posted it to him on June 15,” Mr Cairns said.

“It’s bloody obvious he’s misleading the community.

“The Minister also said the brief has now been included in the public information section available on the RTA’s project website but this isn’t true.

“Perhaps the Minister has not been informed that that section of the RTA website has not been updated for over 4 months and I know because I check it every day.”

Mr Cairns said the last page of the brief has a diagram of the four possible locations for a second bridge that the RTA requested and clearly show Pound and Bacon Street listed along with Fitzroy Street.
