Paul Jones, from the Grafton SES, frees a willie wagtail from the Vent on top of Gon’ Fishin.
THE newly christened Whirly Willy would have to be one of the luckiest willie wagtails in the country.
The little bird flew into a Whirligig atop Grafton business Gon' Fishin' yesterday morning.
WIRES was called, however, could offer very little assistance as the rescue operation involved ladder work.
So the big guns were called in. The SES arrived, sirens blazing and with a large extendable ladder to rescue Whirly. They got him out safe and sound.
Wally Bridle, one of the SES volunteers who attended the call out, said the SES only gets the occasional call out, and normally it is to assist in the rescue of a larger animal, such as a horse.
