Hot rods meet at Yamba Macca’s

ANYONE who called in for a bite to eat at McDonald’s in Yamba last Friday night could have been forgiven for thinking they had stepped back in time.

Keith Griffiths took his 1932 coupe to the inaugural Yamba Cruize Inn on Friday night.

ANYONE who called in for a bite to eat at McDonald’s in Yamba last Friday night could have been forgiven for thinking they had stepped back in time.

About 14 hot rods and classic cars from around the local area met in the car park in the first of what will be a monthly event.

Yamba hot rod enthusiast Dick Bushell said the idea started with some of his fellow classic-car lovers suggesting they should get together in the Clarence Valley on a regular basis.

All that was left to do was find an appropriate venue.

“The idea was to do what they do in the (United) States, and Macca’s suited because it was a burger house,” Mr Bushell said.

“Having a burger place meant we could stop, have a milkshake or whatever, and talk cars.

“I thought it would be a good thing for Yamba because there’s a lot of guys with cars here but they don’t seem to do anything.”

Mr Bushell and his classic car cohorts had decided to hold a meet at McDonald’s on the first Friday of every month.

Anyone with a classic car – or who has an interest in seeing one – is welcome to come along.

For further information call Mr Bushell on 0407 301 302.
