Maclean set to fling into action

ADD a wee bit o'fun to your Easter Weekend this year and fling yourself to Maclean for the 107th Maclean Highland Gathering.

The popular annual event which celebrates the town's Scottish heritage is kilting up to attract another bumper crowd in 2011 and Lower Clarence Scottish Association secretary Bob MacPherson can't wait for the pipers to start playing.

“We have 20 Scottish bands coming to the Highland Gathering this year and more than 600 competitors entered in the piping, drumming, highland dancing and sporting events,” he said.

“I'm very excited. We had over 4000 people attend last year's Highland Gathering and I think we'll see a similar figure in 2011.

“It's a community event which has been on the calendar for a long time and many people look forward to coming to Maclean for the gathering at Easter.

“It's also an enormous economic boost for the Clarence Valley and the people who travel to Maclean spill into Grafton and the surrounding areas.

“Accommodation in Maclean is already booked out and I think that's a sign we're set to attract large numbers. I just hope the sun shines down on us this Easter.”

The 107th Maclean Highland Gathering will be held on April 22-23 at the Maclean Showground. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for pensioners and $5 for students.
