Keepers perform in Perth heat

HARRY Byrnes and Bianca Sedger performed well as goalkeepers for their New South Wales teams at the Under-15 Indoor Hockey National Championships in Perth from January 9-14.

Perth turned on the heat for the week, with temperatures sitting in the 30-35 degree range.

However, the high temperatures didn't stop the New South Wales teams from dominating the championships in the boys' and girls' competitions.

The New South Wales boys went through the rounds with an unbeaten record.

The girls fought hard and managed to finish on top of the ladder.

Both teams played in their grand finals, both against Victoria, with the boys dominating throughout the game from start to finish to finish 5-0 winners.

The girls struggled early and went to half-time 2-1 down, but came back in the second half to convert three short corners and come away with a win.

Congratulations to New South Wales U15 indoor hockey teams for achieving national champion status.

Harry and Bianca both returned with gold medals after a great effort.

They both enjoyed the camaraderie and experience thoroughly.

The state-level coaching they received developed their skills will bode well for them and Grafton hockey.
