WESTLAWN Tigers Football Club's first division and youth football sides commence training for the upcoming season at Barnier Park today at 6pm.
All current and new players should be ready to go as the club wants a sound preparation leading into the State Cup and then the commencement of the North Coast Football Premiership.
After last season's promotion to the first division competition, where they finished in a creditable fifth position, Westlawn are looking to establish themselves with a much more consistent effort in 2012.
With the return of last season's coaching staff and most of last year's players backing up, coach Robert Usher is confident that Westlawn can become a much more competitive proposition for the upcoming season.
"Last year was a step up for a lot of our younger players; they now have the benefit of a year at this level and that experience will give them the confidence that they can be competitive with any team in the competition," Usher said.
"Players like Aiden Cavanagah-Nesa and Zac Mawhinny will be looking to control the midfield, and with James Joyce and James Connor providing a more experienced attacking combination things are looking positive.
"The depth in the club is very encouraging . We anticipate our youth grade will perform much better this year."
Westlawn takes on Far North Coast champions Goonellabah in both grades at Barnier Park in the first trial of the season on Sunday. These games will kick off at 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
