Sixteen-year-old tennis star Brittany Huxley won the Gosford Junior AMT singles and doubles events last week.
A CAREER highlight win for Grafton tennis star Brittany Huxley has eased some of the pain at missing a berth in the junior Australian Open last month.
Huxley, 16, had a point to prove in the Gosford Gold Australian Money Tournament, crushing the first, second and third seeds on her way to winning the gold-rated event.
Junior tennis events are rated on a scale from platinum (the highest rating, given to events such as the Sydney Junior International), gold, silver, bronze and through to white at the local level.
Huxley, who made the final of a platinum event 18 months ago, has been playing good tennis recently and stepped up a notch to win the gold event last week.
"Yes, I was thrilled with the result, as I played really well," she said.
"I've got a pro-tour event in Sydney coming up in a couple of weeks and have nominated for a couple of others at Ipswich and Bundaberg, so I should be playing plenty of matches in the next few weeks."
Huxley was the fifth seed in the Gosford AMT and beat the third and second seeds to meet the top seed, Melissa Anderson from Sydney, in the final.
After duking it out for three sets against the second and third seeds, Huxley was expecting a tough final.
But after a close first set, the Graftonite left her city counterpart in her wake, powering to a 7-5 6-1 win to claim the title.
Astonishingly, Huxley also secured the doubles title the day before her singles win.
In a Novak Djokovic-like performance of endurance, she spent 5 hours 19 minutes on court with her doubles semi and final before her singles final the following day.
