Leaking bus causes chaos

Tags: dennis pye, oil spill, south grafton fire brigade

GRAFTON and South Grafton fire crews took more than two and a half hours to clean up an oil spill left by a leaking bus as it snaked its way around city streets on Thursday night.

South Grafton Fire Brigade captain Dennis Pye said his crew used a neutralising agent, Spaghsorb, to clean up the spill.

He said they had to apply the material to Roberts Dr, Armidale Rd, Cambridge, Bligh, Spring, Skinner, Through and Bent sts before the offending bus went over the bridge.

He said a crew from Grafton also had numerous streets to clean up, but came to help the South crew after they had finished.

He spoke with the bus company yesterday morning to let them know of the leak and they told him the bus was being repaired.

A motorist said Grafton streets to be affected included Prince, Hoof, Duke, the Summerland Way and streets in Westlawn.
