THE spate of vandalism in Grafton has continued overnight with vandals targeting the South Grafton Ex-Servicemen's Club bowling greens.

The damage was discovered early today by greenkeeper Adam Durrington.

"I discovered the mess this morning when I came to work and to see the damage just makes your heart sink," Durrington said.

"They smashed pot plants, threw concrete blocks onto the greens causing large divots and smashed marker pegs and number boxes.

"They also left one of the hoses on which caused washouts on the green and threw seats as well."

The damage to the greens could not have come at a worse time for Durrington who has been working overtime preparing the greens in readiness for women's bowls.

"It's taken a while to prepare the greens after all the rain in recent weeks," he said.

"It was our first day back with the women's bowls but that won't go ahead."

Durrington added getting the greens back in shape will take time in particular repairing areas where parts of the green have been left bare.

"Most of the damage I'll be able to fix in the next few days but it could take a couple of weeks for the grass to come back through," he said.
