Coach Tim Grosser is using the latest technology to teach young kids the art of cricket.
IN HIS day Tim Grosser was a more than handy cricketer.
The former Westlawn top-order batsman oozed class with the willow, that was until his dodgy knees told him it was time to hang up his bat.
Grosser admits part of his success at cricket growing up was watching his favourite players on television.
But recently the Clarence Valley Anglican School principal has taken advantage of the latest technology to teach young kids the art of cricket.
"It's a Cricket Australia coach's app. I'm on their database and it was a new thing that came out about a month ago," Grosser said.
"So I downloaded the app to my iPad and decided to take it along to Westlawn under-12 training."
While watching your cricket heroes on television is a good way to learn the game, Grosser believes his iPod method takes cricket coaching a step further.
"You can record a kid batting or bowling using the iPad," he explained.
"You can then compare pre-installed clips of Test players in the nets doing various skills.
"I've always said television is one of the best coaching tools. You watch it then go outside and practice it.
"This is just another method which is quick, instant and the kids get to see themselves on the screen."
According to Grosser one huge advantage of using the cricket app is kids can compare their technique with Test cricketers almost instantaneously.
"I can split the screen and give the kids instant feedback," he said.
"A couple of boys have already sat down with me and looked at what they've done.
"I can then point them in the right direction and they can go away and work on their technique.
"It's also in high definition."
