IF YOU'RE going to celebrate your 107th birthday, you might as well do it in style.

IF YOU'RE going to celebrate your 107th birthday, you might as well do it in style.

Today Rotary turns 107 and as part of the birthday bash, members of the Grafton Midday Rotary Club yesterday laid out a giant birthday cake and display at Grafton Shoppingworld to let people know what the club was all about.

Club president Carmel Devine, who has been a member for about six years, said Rotary had ambitious projects. One, which had been going for about eight years, was to eradicate polio world wide.

Another was to provide immediate housing relief to disaster-stricken areas and the club is displaying the shelters and capsules it delivers as part of its Shoppingworld stand.

"You get great satisfaction out of being in an organisation that is able to help people who are less fortunate than ourselves," she said.

"We take living in Australia for granted."

The club meets at 12.45pm each Wednesday at Roches Family Hotel in Grafton. No invitation is needed.

There are four other Rotary clubs in the valley - Grafton, Yamba, Maclean and Iluka.
