12-year-old charged over deliberately lit fires

POLICE have charged a 12-year-old boy and are due to caution another after multiple fires lit around Grafton last month.

About midnight (Thursday 28 November), emergency services responded to calls of playground equipment on fire at a school on North Street, Grafton.

The fire was extinguished with considerable damage to the equipment.

About 2am (Friday 29 November 2013), emergency services responded to calls of playground equipment on fire at a park on Garden St, Grafton.

The fire was extinguished with the entire playground equipment destroyed.

About 9pm (Sunday 1 December 2013), emergency services responded to calls of a fire shed on fire, at a building on the corner of Hoof and Cranworth Streets, Grafton.

The fire was extinguished with bins, a telegraph pole and a shed damaged as a result.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended all incidents, commencing investigations into the fires.

On Thursday (5 December 2013), a 12-year-old teen was arrested by police and taken to Grafton Police Station he was charged with destroy property by fire in company and trespass. He was given strict bail conditions to appear at a children's court.

Another teenager will be cautioned for destroy property by fire in company and trespass
