40 years on Braithwaite now an Australian icon

WHEN a fresh-faced Daryl Braithwaite was fronting the band Sherbet and belting out songs like Howzat, he'd have been the last person to imagine he'd be going just as strong four decades later.

Today the hair's much shorter, the music not quite as loud and the audience perhaps a bit older, but that soaring voice is just as powerful and haunting as ever.

Braithwaite remains an Aussie music icon - his fame enhanced as much by his longevity as his undoubted ability as a performer.

The legendary voice behind hit songs such as The Horses and As Days Go By is bringing his live show to Ipswich.

In a distinguished career spanning close to 40 years, Braithwaite is regarded as one of Australia's premier performers.

With a voice that resonates with inspiration, soul and warmth, his initial fame came as the front man for Sherbet, the chart-topping band of the 70s and 80s.

After Sherbet, Braithwaite returned to the Australian music scene in a very big way, as a solo performer in 1988 with the release of the phenomenally successful album Edge which spent more than a year in the national charts.

Throughout his career, Braithwaite's unique voice has captured a time and place integral to the Australian music scene and more importantly the audience.

Daryl Braithwaite will perform live at the Racehorse Hotel in Booval on Friday, June 7 at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be bought from the venue for $10 or online at ticketmaster.com.au
