$5450 fee to connect sewer only fair: Cr Baker

FAIRNESS was at the core of a decision to charge four Grafton properties more than $5200 extra to have the sewer connected.

Clarence Valley Council staff recommended the four properties in Queen St, near Poplar Dr, be connected to the sewer at a cost of $242.85, but to Cr Andrew Baker this was not fair.

At Tuesday's council meeting he successfully moved to make the connection fee $5450.25.

"I haven't been able to reconcile we have foregone $5063 over time and because of this, foregone $21,000," he said.

"We've learned one of the properties has never paid rates.

"This is as fair as anyone in the community has copped."

Cr Baker said the council would have to spend about $20,000 on infrastructure to connect the properties to the sewer.
