Couple charged with stabbing woman and setting her alight

A COUPLE has been charged over the gruesome murder of a NSW woman who was stabbed and set alight in a Sydney apartment block.

The burnt body of 30-year-old Noleen Hayson Pal was discovered in a stairwell at Werrington earlier this year.

Police allege she had been stabbed a number of times before being set alight.

Following a five-month investigation, detectives from the Homicide Squad arrested a 34-year-old woman and 49-year-old man on the roadside at Campsie.

The woman was charged with murder and the man with being an accessory before and after the fact.

Both fronted court and were refused bail.

Police will allege the pair knew the victim.
